Working in small groups can help students learn to collaborate, but what can you do to ensure that students learn to collaborate effectively? During this session, Pat will present the findings of recent research at Washington University on conversational patterns in General Chemistry Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) groups (small, student-led study groups). Pat will describe what this research reveals about the conversational patterns that foster collaboration, as well as what it suggests about the strategies that instructors can use to facilitate collaborative learning in the classroom.
