Instructors often use copyrighted material in their courses without a clear sense of how copyright applies to teaching. In this session, Barbara will explain some of the key concepts and guidelines that instructors should know about copyright. Topics will include licensing, teaching with materials that are not-copyrightable and materials that are in the public domain, and the definition of “fair use” of copyrighted materials for educational purposes. She will also review the University’s Copyright and Academic Integrity policies and ask participants to consider the advantages of distributing material to students using electronic tools, such as Telesis and Ares (the Libraries' new course-reserves system).
