ITeach 2008: "Student Learning, Teaching, and Technology"
Washington University faculty are invited to attend ITeach 2008, a symposium that will bring together faculty from across the disciplines to discuss how a deeper understanding of student learning can foster the development of new, more effective teaching methods. The symposium will take place on January 10, 2008 in Eads and Ridgley Halls on the Danforth Campus.
ITeach 2008 will begin with a plenary address by Randall Bass, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Center for New Designs in Learning & Scholarship and Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning Initiatives at Georgetown University. Presentations by Washington University faculty and staff will follow throughout the morning and afternoon. Breakfast, lunch, and a closing reception will provide opportunities for informal discussion among attendees.
The ITeach sessions are organized into four tracks: “Current Trends in Teaching,” “Integrating Technology,” “Teaching Strategies,” and “Tools for Teaching.” Topics include
- Creating an Effective Lecture
- Promoting Collaborative Learning
- How Quizzes Can Enhance Student Learning
- Teaching with GIS
- How Computer Technology is Changing Our Teaching Opportunities
- Using Digital Research Materials for Teaching
- One Approach to Teaching an Upper-Level, Writing-Intensive Course
